Trip to Children's Hospital

Well, yesterday we went to Children's Hospital in St. Louis. I was very impressed with the hospital, it was SO kid friendly!! When we got back to the orthopedic doctor they took off Kole's temporary cast, and wanted to do more x-rays. The x-rays went well this time, he cried, but nothing like at the ER. They x-rayed his wrist and his elbow. Then our doctor looked at the X-rays, she said that he has a fractured forearm, she said that alot of doctors would call it a "buckle fracture"
She then asked that he be casted from his elbow down to his wrist. So we left with Kole having a nice blue arm :)
But before we left we ate at the hospital (they were a little concerned about Kole's fingers swelling with the cast on and asked us to stay around the hospital for awhile and then come back for them to look at his fingers), being at that cafeteria really made me appreciate that we were only at the hospital for a broken arm. It could be SO MUCH worse!! We saw a little girl, maybe just turned 1, who was hooked up to so many IVs but she was still smiling. It really puts things in perspective of how grateful we should be!!
After we ate we went back to the doctor and the cast was a little tight, so they used a special tool to loosen around his hand.
Then we came home!! I will post some photos later :)

Pediatritian Apt.

Well, today we had a regularly scheduled Pediatritian apt. for Kole's 2 year check-up (thinking he was needing shots) we kept the apt. because the ER staff wanted us to follow up on Monday with Kole's primary doctor. We had an apt. scheduled for next Monday (9 days after the break happened) with a ortho doctor out of Lebanon. When the Pediatrician saw Kole she was REALLY concerned about us waiting until next Monday for him to get a permanent cast. She then asked us if we would be willing to go to Children's Hospital in St. Louis and have Kole treated there. So she called Children's and they are going to see us TOMORROW!! Kole's doctor was just really concerned because of the fact that kids bones heal so fast she thought that waiting 9 days would be too long. Plus she wanted to make sure a pediatric ortho doctor was the one to handle the cast and the bone, because if it is done wrong then we will have problems!! So tomorrow morning we will drive to St. Louis have X-Rays done again (long story, the Lebanon ER and the Radiologist reports didn't match, so poor little guy has to get X-Rays AGAIN) and hopefully they will cast his little arm!

Broken Arm

Well, where to begin?? Kole broke his arm on Saturday night, at about 5:00. This is the story of what has happened since then......................
On Saturday we were having his 2nd birthday party!! My parents and Paul and Darla were here at the house visiting after everyone had just left. Kole wanted his papa to play with him, so my dad and Kole go in Kole's room to play. Next thing we hear is Kole crying, and my dad saying he fell. Dad and Kole then go and sit in a chair and Kole is acting sleepy but won't move his right arm. After about 10 minutes of him SCREAMING when anyone touches his arm, Jon and I decide that it is time to go to the ER. God was definitely in CONTROL!! Jon has a friend from High School that works at the ER as a P.A., he was working that night, so we got right in with him. After the PA felt around on Kole he decided that Kole needed an X-Ray right around his wrist. After 3 X-Rays we were shown where the brake happened. Kole was then given a temporary cast. Then we were sent home!!
WE WILL NEVER FORGET HIS PARTY!!
That night he and his daddy probably only slept 3-4 hours. So we stayed home all day Sunday. Trying to get used to the cast. Simple things like: no bath, how do we put a shirt on??? We have adapted REALLY well :)

First Post

Well, I guess it is time to start blogging.................it seems that EVERYONE is doing it, and what a great way for me to keep up on what Kole is doing!!
It is so hard for me to believe, but Kole turns 2 on Friday!! It doesn't seem possible, I can still remember the day he was born like it was yesterday :)
He is really a great boy. It is amazing the things he says and does. He is really bossy.
Today we had Parent's as Teachers come to the house and do a screening on him. I am not concerned where he is, I just want to know what he looks like on paper :) The lady that came seemed to be pretty impressed with what he can do. One of the things that he needs help with is feeding a baby a bottle.........he isn't around babies, because he is the baby. So looks like we are going to have to buy a baby with a plastic bottle :) She mentioned how great his large motor skills are, but he is a boy! We are going to work on block play and coloring.
